Welcome
Dear Global Citizen,
I am so excited to have you in my class this year! In 7th grade Social Studies: The Modern World, we will study and analyze contemporary policy and global conflict through the lens of global citizenship. Together, we will define your role as an active member of society in your community, the country and world.
As you begin to shape your political opinions and philosophical beliefs about complex issues, you will learn to use primary and secondary sources to gain information. We will look at a variety of media resources with a critical eye for bias and perspective. We will study the cultures and political systems of the world and discuss causes and effects of modern global conflicts.
Throughout the course, you will develop a practical toolkit for active citizenship that will equip you to affect change in your local, national and global communities. Your success in this course and your life outside the classroom will require very hard work, but it will also be fun and exciting. I will accept nothing less than your best, because that is what it will take for you to be a leader and achiever in this world.
